TM targets 400,000 UniFi subscribers by end-2012

Malaysian fixed line incumbent Telekom Malaysia (TM) is reportedly aiming to increase the number of subscribers signed up to services offered over its High Speed Broadband (HSBB) network to 400,000 by end-2012. According to The Star Online, TM has announced the target having revealed that HSBB accesses, which are offered under the ‘UniFi’ banner, had already surpassed 300,000, with the telco’s vice-president Imri Mokhtar saying: ‘This year marks the second birthday of UniFi, and we are excited that the service has reached more than 300,000 customers nationwide ... The coverage area for UniFi is steadily expanding and this is in line with TM’s position as Malaysia’s number one broadband provider and leading new generations communications provider.’ According to the executive, UniFi services are currently being taken up by more than 20% of the premises that the new network passes, well ahead of TM’s initial estimates of between 8% and 10%
