India’s Telecom Commission has reportedly approved measures that will allow the provision of voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) under the National Telecom Policy (NTP) 2012 when it comes into effect in April. According to the Wall Street Journal, which cited an internal note from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the regulations governing the provision of VoIP services will be relaxed to allow calls to mobiles, and international calls. The move aims to ‘enhance affordability to customers’, the DoT note said.
