Ingenico, a leading European manufacturer of point of sale devices, has announced that it is teaming up with Czech mobile operator Telefonica O2 CR, Visa Europe, Komercni Banka and Samsung to deploy mobile payment services in the Republic. Under the agreement Ingenico will be supplying payment terminals for the new near field communication (NFC) mobile payment scheme across the country, which will allow Telefonica O2 subscribers to swap out their mobile device's SIM card for one that supports NFC technologies. The new SIM card will act exactly like a regular SIM, but will come linked to a pre-paid credit card account preloaded with USD16 to encourage users to trial NFC mobile payments.
