Movistar ‘in second 4G pilot phase’; expands eastern HSPA capacity

Movistar Venezuela reports that it has invested VEF16 million (USD3.7 million) in a project to enhance the capacity of its 3.5G HSPA-based services in the eastern areas of Anzoategui, Nueva Esparta, Monagas, Sucre and Bolivar, while rolling out new coverage zones in the eastern cities of Puerto La Cruz, Puerto Ordaz and others. The Spanish-backed cellco also said it expanded by 140% the fibre-optic backbone between the states of Monagas and Anzoategui, costing VEF300,000, according to Entornointeligente.com.
