Fixed wireless base on the slide, copper wireline usage boosted by ADSL

Data published by Sri Lanka’s Central Bank show the country’s fixed wireless telephony subscribers decreasing in the second quarter of 2012 to 2.46 million at the end of June, down from 2.64 million a year earlier and a peak of 2.66 million at end-December 2011. Meanwhile, the statistics indicated that copper wireline local access was expanding, driven by the take-up of ADSL broadband, with the Bank calculating that wireline connections – nearly all provided by Sri Lanka Telecom – had reached nearly 970,000 at end-June 2012, up from 918,000 twelve months previously
