El Salvador’s competition regulator Superintendencia de Competencia (SC) has announced that it has approved the acquisition of Telefonica Multiservicios by Millicom International Cellular’s (MIC’s) Amnet Telecommunications, after having determined that the deal would not significantly affect competition in the market. A joint venture between Telefonica Moviles El Salvador (itself owned by Telefonica of Spain) and Amnet (a wholly owned subsidiary of Luxembourg’s MIC since October 2008), Telefonica Multiservicios provides fixed telephony, internet access and cable TV services in El Salvador.
