Sutel warns of network rollout delays

The Costa Rican watchdog Sutel has revealed that mobile operators will be unable to meet the deadline for the deployment of the first phase of their networks as seven municipalities have not yet given permission for radio bases to be installed, reports BNamericas. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, under the terms of the licences issued to Claro and Movistar in January last year, the pair are obliged to roll out networks in three stages within five years, with the first phase due to be completed by mid-July 2012. The two cellcos launched services over GSM and W-CDMA networks in late November 2011
