64 companies interested in Verizon’s 700MHz spectrum

Verizon Wireless has indicated that as many as 64 companies have expressed an interest in buying its 700MHz Lower A and B Block spectrum, Fierce Wireless reports. The mobile giant has deemed the frequencies surplus to requirements, and seeks to offload them as soon as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) formally approves its long-running USD3.9 billion purchase of a nationwide allocation of AWS spectrum from SpectrumCo, a joint venture between cablecos Comcast Corporation, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks. The deal was endorsed by the Department of Justice (DoJ) last week, on condition that the companies involved change their marketing agreements for selling each other’s services.
