According to a filing to the Dutch financial regulator published yesterday, the investment group Capital Research & Management has cut its equity stake in leading carrier KPN Telecom (or Royal KPN) to below 5% - the threshold under which it is no longer required to make regulatory filings regarding its stake. Capital Research & Management, formerly a major shareholder in KPN, now owns just 4.67% of the incumbent, down from 6.79% in June and 15.11% in January this year. Last month America Movil (AM), the regional mobile operator owned by the Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Helu, increased its holding of KPN Telecom from 5% to roughly 28%, despite strong resistance from the Dutch firm’s management.
