South Sudan’s Ministry of Telecommunication and Postal Services has asked mobile subscribers of the newly independent country to register their details, in line with a resolution passed by the cabinet in June 2011, Oye Times reports. Sudan’s mobile operators – Kuwait-based Zain, South Africa’s MTN and local firm Sudatel – began dividing their operations into two units after the South gained independence in July 2011, but have yet to agree a licence fee with the new country. ‘Now that the companies have separated their networks from Sudan and adopting the South Sudan country code +211, the Ministry has assessed and resolved that it is time to fully implement the move.
