Airtel Zambia inaugurates commercial HSPA+ services

India’s Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of HSPA+ technology by its Zambian subsidiary, Airtel Zambia. According to India’s Economic Times, the Zambian mobile operator already has 280 cell sites in operation using the technology, covering all of the countries provincial districts, and it aims to roll out up to 400 by the end of 2012. Offering theorertical downlink speeds of up to 21Mbps, Fayaz King, Airtel Zambia’s managing director, said that the higher transfer rates would allow its customers ‘the opportunity to interact with data in a different way.’ Commenting further on the development, the executive noted: ‘Our 3.75G platform will allow customers to combine the enormous potential of the internet with the convenience of cellular phones and other devices
