Telefonica Digital, the business unit of Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica set up to ‘bolster Telefonica’s place in the digital world and leverage any growth opportunities arising in this environment,’ and UAE-based Etisalat have announced a wide-ranging agreement that will see the duo ‘jointly develop business opportunities, licence products and share knowledge across a range of digital services’. Under the terms of the agreement Telefonica and Etisalat will reportedly collaborate to develop business opportunities in machine-to-machine (M2M), financial services, device procurement, cloud computing, video service, digital advertising, eHealth and over-the-top communications. Within the field of M2M in particular, the two companies will share technical and platform expertise, co-operate in international M2M roaming and collaborate in bidding processes, while Etisalat will become Telefonica’s partner in the delivery of managed M2M services to common customers
